Abstract: With the rapid economic development and the process of urbanization accelerates, China's urban traffic faces the great challenges, especially the traffic congestion has become the bottleneck of urban devel- opment. The paper combines the current traffic conditions in Xi'an, and analyzes the main reasons of urban traffic congestion. Finally, according to the situation of Xi’an, the thesis puts forward some suggestions, such as great efforts to develop public transport, standard training on driving-teaching school, strict controlling the driver's license examination results, and reasonable restrictions on private car travelling etc.
