Abstract: Abstract: The concept of vulnerability stems from the studies of natural disaster. In recent years, the studies of vulnerability have broken through its original field and became a hot topic. The contents of the paper are as follows. Firstly, it sorts out the vulnerability research progress based on the analysis of the documents. Secondly, it defines the concept of vulnerability of regional development using induction and deduction method, analyzes its connotation and puts forward the classification criteria for accumulated vulnerability, concussed vulnerability and compound vulnerability. At last, according to the theory analysis, the paper draws a conclusion that the vulnerability and sustainability is not only a kind of development level which appeared alternately, but also the essential characteristic of the regional system; only when the vulnerability is controlled, can people realize sustainable development.
