Abstract: Abstract: From July 20 to 21, 2008, the storm hit the Northwest Sichuan, especially the hardest earthquake- hit areas, causing great economic losses. In this paper, through the measured data, the weather characteristics and the Doppler Weather Radar Products are analyzed. The result shows that: in addition to favorable conditions for large-scale, occurrence and development of the Medium β-scale weather systems are the direct causes of the storm which has a strong characteristic of local and sudden. With the cross on the Doppler weather radar speed convergent wind field, combined reflectivity Products and automatic station-by-hour precipitation analysis, this paper points out that the Doppler weather radar wind speed convergence products and Combination of reflectance Products can play a better role in the forecast of short-term approaching rainstorm in northwest Sichuan.
