Abstract: The coseismic displacements of Wenchuan 8.0Ms earthquake by GPS measurements are used to determine the earthquake fault slip. The results show that the fault slip is mainly thrust in the southwest part and with significant dextral strike slip in the northeast part. Base on the fault slip obtained, the earthquake energy released can be estimated. With the average strain accumulation rate obtained by geological investigation and GPS measurements, the earthquake cycle of the Longmengshan fault zone is predicted to be from 860 to 2600 . a a
