Abstract: The methods and their mechanisms to modify the adsorption capacity of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) to enhance the solidification strength, and improve the desorption rate to strengthen the self-purification capacity of soil were reviewed, respectively, through studying on adsorption/desorption behavior of PAHs, respective of remediating and treating PAHs contaminated soil. The efficacies of adding surfactants or adjusting water quality through several salts were proved, therefore, behaviors of PAHs adsorption/ desorption toward soil with presence of both should be studied further.
