Abstract: The direction and frequency information of a fingerprint image is very important for preprocessing steps. This paper proposes an improved method of fingerprint image enhancement based on Gabor filter. Considering the characteristics of the direction and frequency selection, the method makes use of low frequency sub-image to calculate orientation image after wavelet decomposition and modifies ridge frequency as a parameter of Gabor filter to remove the noise quickly and enhance the image. The experimental result indicates that the method reduces time complexity, has better robustness and high classification rate.
