Abstract: The paper took the reverse engineering of car body as research object, summarizing the measuring process of the car body with coordinate measurement machine briefly. The point clouds data was carried on processing with Imageware software. The different surface construction and repairing methods were analyzed according to different cases. The surface of the whole body was built on the methods and point clouds data discussed formerly. Compared with traditional design method, the reverse engineering can enhance working efficiency and reduce new product development cycle.
