Abstract: In this paper, a procedure to solve the capacitor placement problem in power system with wind farms is considered. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is employed to solve the optimal the configuration of capacitors in power systems, considering wind farms as one of the power generation sources. The objective function is that the total cost, including the cost for network active power losses and the cost of compensating capacitors, should be minimum. The results of test examples show that the presented algorithm is feasible and effective.
