Abstract: A small-size simulation grid is set up for wind powered pumped hydro storage systems in island grids. And a joint operation scheme is prepared for the systems. Then a mathematical analysis model is established under this scheme. The calculation shows that wind powered pumped hydro storage systems are effective ways to maximum use wind power, compared to the normal wind farm. Curves, which show the impacts of parameters of pumps and turbines, reservoir capacity within the joint systems consisting of a 4.8MW wind farm, are drawn to optimally select these three parameters. Thus a simplified example of joint systems in other conditions is provided.
