ABSTRACT

With the continuous reform and progress of the education system, science education for primary and secondary school students has received increasing attention from the public and has become an essential component of the basic education system. However, the current science teaching in Chinese primary and secondary schools still faces many challenges, including a shortage of science teachers, an incomplete long-term effective science teacher training system, a lack of science textbooks and teaching aids, inadequate laboratory facilities, and a need to improve students’ scientific practice abilities and creativity. In response to these issues, educators in China are constantly improving and perfecting science education in primary and secondary schools, attaching importance to the status and role of science education, and strengthening the construction of the teaching staff. They seek to achieve specialization and comprehensiveness in science education, actively improve the evaluation system of science education, and propose project-based teaching programs such as STEM education to enhance students’ scientific literacy.
