Special Issue on

Surface Modification Technology and Research

Surface modification is the act of modifying the surface of a material by bringing physical, chemical or biological characteristics different from the ones originally found on the surface of a material. This modification is usually made to solid materials, but it is possible to find examples of the modification to the surface of specific liquids. In recent years, many advances have been made in developing surface treatments to alter the chemical and physical properties of polymer surfaces without affecting bulk properties. Common surface modification techniques include treatments by flame, corona, plasmas, photons, electron beams, ion beams, X-rays, and γ-rays. Ion beam-based technology, a surface modification without detrimentally affecting bulk properties, has been proved the most successful methods.

Materials Sciences and Applications is pleased to present a Special Issue featuring the research of Surface Modification Technology and Research. The special Issue focuses on the theory, design, synthesis, structure properties, performance analysis and testing of Surface modification technology.

This Special Issue of Materials Sciences and Applications focuses on the theoretical and experimental studies related to the high performance structural materials as influenced by their structural design, preparation methods, microstructure, physical or chemical properties, mechanical properties, and application conditions and operating environment.

Topics of interest include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Materials modification theory
  • High-intensity Pulsed Ion Beams and surface modified technique
  • Surface Modification by Plasma-induced
  • Plasma induced technology
  • Functional surface modification
  • Polymer Surface Modification
  • Nano-surface modification
  • Surface Modification of biomaterial
  • Other research topics about the surface modification technology
