Special Issue on Surgical Site Infection

A Surgical Site Infection (SSI) is caused by germs and often develops within one month after surgery. Some can be superficial infections involving the skin only. Others are more serious and can involve tissues under the skin, organs, or implanted material. SSI is one of the most common complications that occur after surgery. Some factors may increase the risk for a SSI, such as smoking, dead tissues or foreign objects, diseases (diabetes, heart conditions, or blood vessel problems, etc.), weak immune system, older age and so on.

In this special issue, we intend to invite front-line researchers and authors to submit original research and review articles on exploring Surgical Site Infection. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Superficial incisional SSI
  • Deep incisional SSI
  • Organ or space SSI
  • Hyperbaric oxygen therapy
  • Vacuum-assisted closure
  • Cellular and humoral immunity
  • Antibiotic use
  • Prophylactic antibiotic therapy
  • Signs and symptoms
  • Prevention and treatment

Authors should read over the journal’s For Authors carefully before submission. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal’s Paper Submission System.

Please kindly specify the “Special Issue” under your manuscript title. The research field “Special Issue - Surgical Site Infection” should be selected during your submission.
