PHILOSOPHY AND SOCIAL PRAXIS

In joint publishing with ESSENCE LIBRARY (VOL. 10, NO.3)

EDITORIAL

It is much discussed in the academic journals and print media about the relevance of philosophy to the society, and philosophers have been up to the task in churning out treatises to convince African society of the philosophy readiness to transform it as it did in the civilized world. This attitude of philosophical enterprise is what is called “Praxis”. Volume 10 of ESSENCE with OJPP has been concerned with the Adamic consequences of sin and disobedience or the problem of mankind and its phenomenological, existential and ontological implications for the society of the future on this planet earth. This number three issue is an enactment of the relevance of philosophy in building a harmonious, conducive, peaceful and progressive human habitat on this planet. It is a re-affirmation of the fact that philosophy is both abstract and practical, it is metaphysical and empirical and to sum it up is both ontological and phenomenological in leading man into wisdom and showing him the way to salvation. That is why the Bible in Hosea 4:6 says, “my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. The ancient Egyptian proverb says “man know thyself” and Socrates, the ancient Athenian philosopher says, :unexamined life is not worth living”. This special issue is on the age long trajectory of philosophy to make man examine himself, know thyself and hence acquire the knowledge for a sustainable future. To further conversations and interrogations on this subject matter are the following research papers; Monastic Philosophy of the Origin of University by Charles Nnaji; Users Perception of University Library Resources by Obiozor-Ekeze, Roseline N. Is There An Igbo-African Logic? by Ogugua Ikechukwu; Friendship In Cisero; A Pre-Condition For Development by Chidinma Ukaulor; African Theodicy, a Panacea to Niger Delta Youth Restiveness by Uche A. Dike, and An Appraised Of Man’s Essence In Bantu Ontology by Mbaegbu C.A.

Volume ten (10) is on the Adamic problem of sin and disobedience which is a philosophical problem or the problem of philosophy in general. Number one (1) is on Phenomenology and Adamic dilemma on the planet earth. Number two (2) is on Philosophy and society and number three (3) is on Philosophy and praxis all on the problem of Philosophy (Adamic disobedience) and mankind.
