Submission
Q1: How can I determine whether my manuscript falls within the scope of a SCIRP journal?
To ascertain whether your manuscript is suitable for a particular SCIRP journal, we recommend consulting the journal’s
Aims and Scope
statement, available on the journal homepage.
Q2: What is the procedure for submitting a manuscript to a SCIRP journal?
All manuscripts must be submitted electronically via our
online submission system
, through which authors may monitor the progress of their submission at any stage. Prior to submitting, new users must complete a one-time registration to obtain a username and password. The manuscript, including all figures and tables, should be compiled into a single MS Word or PDF file for upload.
Q3: Is it necessary to format my manuscript using the SCIRP template prior to submission?
Authors are strongly encouraged to prepare their manuscripts in accordance with the SCIRP author template. Detailed formatting requirements are set out in the Author Guidelines under the Manuscript Preparation section. All submissions must be made via the online submission system in MS Word or PDF format.
Q4: What file formats are accepted for manuscript submission?
Initial submissions must be provided in MS Word or PDF format and uploaded via the online submission system. Upon acceptance, the final revised manuscript may be supplied in MS Word or LaTeX format by email.
Q5: Are there any length requirements or restrictions for manuscripts submitted to SCIRP journals?
SCIRP journals do not impose strict word or page limits. Scientific merit and clarity of presentation are the primary criteria for acceptance. Authors are nonetheless encouraged to present their findings as concisely as possible, in the interests of both peer reviewers and readers.
Q6: Are authors required to suggest potential peer reviewers?
While not mandatory, authors are strongly encouraged to propose suitably qualified reviewers with relevant expertise, as this can facilitate the editorial process. In the event that no suitable candidates are proposed, the editorial office will independently identify and invite appropriate reviewers.
Q7: Does SCIRP publish review articles and survey papers?
Yes. SCIRP imposes no restrictions on manuscript type. Original research articles, review papers, survey articles, and other scholarly contributions are all considered for publication.
Q8: How will authors be notified upon successful submission of their manuscript?
Authors will receive an automated acknowledgement by email immediately upon successful submission. The manuscript will subsequently undergo an administrative check before being assigned to the relevant editors for initial evaluation. Should any issues be identified during this process, the editorial office will contact the corresponding author directly.
Q9: Is a signed author declaration required at the point of submission?
Yes. A signed author declaration form is required from all contributing authors and must be forwarded to the Editorial Assistant by email.
Q10: Is a cover letter required when submitting a manuscript?
Yes. A cover letter is a mandatory component of all submissions. It may be uploaded via the submission system alongside the manuscript, or forwarded separately to the Editorial Assistant by email. The cover letter should be presented on official institutional letterhead from the corresponding author’s institution and must include:
A professional profile of the author(s) and their affiliated institution(s), supplemented by links to institutional or personal webpages, a record of publications from the preceding two years, or a verified scholarly identifier (e.g.,
ORCID
).
A profile of each suggested reviewer, including their institutional affiliation, a link to a personal webpage or verified scholarly identifier, and a current email address.
A concise statement of the scientific context, originality, and significance of the submitted work.
Article Processing Charges
Q1: Are article processing charges applicable to papers published in SCIRP journals?
Yes. All content published in SCIRP journals is made freely available online under an open access model; no subscription, institutional access, or pay-per-view fees are charged to readers. To support the costs associated with publication infrastructure, editorial management, and peer review, an Article Processing Charge (APC) is levied upon acceptance. The APC is ordinarily met by the author’s institution or research funding body. SCIRP extends reduced APCs to authors affiliated with Lower- and Middle-Income Countries.
Q2: What payment methods are accepted for article processing charges?
APCs may be settled via PayPal, international bank transfer, credit card, or Western Union. Full payment instructions are available within the submission system. Authors with payment-related enquiries are invited to contact the Editorial Assistant directly.
Note:
1. When remitting payment by international wire transfer, authors must ensure that their Paper ID — as specified in the acceptance notification — is clearly referenced in the payment details. Failure to include this information may result in delays in processing. Please retain the bank receipt as confirmation of transfer.
2. For online payments, authors are advised to record the transaction order number and retain a copy of the payment confirmation for their records.
Q3: How may authors confirm receipt of their article processing charge payment?
Following payment, authors should forward their payment receipt or proof of transaction to the Editorial Assistant by email. An official payment confirmation letter will be issued by the editorial office upon verification of receipt.
Peer-Review Process
Q1: What is the expected duration of the peer review process?
The peer review process is typically completed within two to four weeks of manuscript assignment. Authors wishing to enquire about the status of their submission are welcome to contact the Editorial Assistant.
Publication
Q1: What is the expected time frame between acceptance and online publication?
SCIRP endeavours to publish accepted manuscripts as expeditiously as possible. The interval between formal acceptance and online availability is contingent upon the timely receipt of the author’s final approved manuscript. Under normal circumstances, articles are made available online within approximately three weeks of the completion of all post-acceptance procedures.
Indexing
Q1: Do SCIRP journals carry an official Journal Impact Factor?
The term "Journal Impact Factor" (JIF) refers specifically to the proprietary bibliometric indicator published by
Clarivate Analytics (formerly Thomson Reuters)
, derived from citation data indexed in the
Web of Science
(WOS) and reported in the
Journal Citation Reports
® (JCR) — referred to here as the JCR®JIF.
Currently,
none
of SCIRP’s journals hold a JCR®JIF. However, 242 SCIRP journals are searchable via the Cited Reference Search function on Web of Science. For further details, please see
Citations of SCIRP journals based on Web of Science as of June 2017
.
Authors are also encouraged to consult the
San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment
(DORA), which is reproduced in SCIRP’s
News
.
Q2: Are citations to articles published in SCIRP journals tracked?
Yes.
Citation data for articles published in SCIRP journals is
monitored
via
Google Scholar
. Authors are referred to our
citation analysis from July 2014
, which surveyed 114 SCIRP journals with strong citation records. Current citation metrics for individual journals are accessible on each journal’s homepage. Notable examples include:
JMMCE
,
NS
,
JBiSE
,
IJCNS
, and
JWARP
.
Q3: In which abstracting and indexing databases are SCIRP journals listed?
Yes.
SCIRP journals are listed in numerous abstracting and indexing databases. In this context, "indexed" denotes that the article-level metadata — comprising author names, title, abstract, year of publication, and a link to the full text — is included in the respective database. Each journal maintains its own indexing record, accessible under the "Indexing" section on the journal homepage. Representative examples include:
JMMCE
,
NS
,
JBiSE
,
IJCNS
, and
JWARP
. Principal indexing services include:
EBSCO
,
CABI
,
Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS)
, and
Zoological Record (WOS)
. For further information, please refer to the relevant News articles on the SCIRP website.
