ABSTRACT: The purpose of this paper is to
analyze the channels through which young people in Congo access and seek
employment. To achieve this goal, we relied on contemporary job search theory.
The results obtained from a bivariate probit model on the basis of data from
the survey carried out by the “Laboratoire de Recherches et d’Etudes
Economiques et Sociales” in
2018 on the employability of young
people showed that social networks are the channel through which young people
access employment and that the informal sector offers more employment to young
people than the formal sector. These results allow us to formulate some
implications for economic policies relating to employment access and job search
channels in Congo.
