Abstract: Music education in Italy has an important tradition, especially in the field of the practice of music. Over the past 20 years, the focus of the research has also reverted to the field of methodology studies, teaching, and the foundations of pedagogy. Recent legislative measures relating to initiatives aimed at dissemination of the culture and practice of the Italian school have set the stage for a boost to incrementing and special training of music teachers that will assist and help generalist teachers. Also, in 2009 the European Parliament passed a resolution that recommended the obligation of music education in schools of any level. In this field, the increased interest in the teaching of vocal and choral singing is one of the strengths which orient themselves in the processes of teaching and learning at school, towards a process of lifelong learning, becoming a widespread experience and for all people. At the same time that the European Parliament passed a resolution that recommended the obligation of music education in schools of any level, the second World Conference on arts education was held in Seoul (South Korea), attended by about 800 delegates from 129 Member States, and also recommended that particular attention should be paid to music education and creativity. The author proposes some reflections on the main lines of the educational experience of singing and choral singing in Italian Public Schools, with reference to the indications of the European Union.
