Abstract: In the late 1950s, the American research university represented by Harvard University was keen on the undergraduate teaching innovation, thus, creating a new curriculum and teaching mode--- Freshman Seminar with democracy, highly effective and small characteristics of the class. More than half a century, Freshman Seminar is always a characteristic of American undergraduate education course, It plays an important role in the process of cultivating creative talents and promoting the research-oriented teaching. By the analysis of the teaching practice and the operation mode such as teaching concept, characteristics, curriculum design, teaching force, policy guarantee and technical support in Harvard University, we can in order to produce beneficial enlightenment and reference to promote the construction of the Freshman Seminars in China.
