Abstract: Strain amplitude dependence of the damping capacity was measured and studied on an AZ61 magnesium alloy specimens of as-cast, homogeneous and thermally cycled. The result indicated that homogenize annealing and thermal cycling greatly increased the damping capacity, and the loss factor increased with the increasing temperature and number of cycles in the present experimental conditions. Thermal cycling treatment synchronously increased the loss factor as well as Brinell hardness of homogeneous specimens.
