Abstract: Molybdenum pentachloride has been synthesized via a sealed system with the raw material molybdenum trioxide and carbon tetrachloride. The effect of reaction time and temperature has been discussed in this essay and an ideal process is found. In this process, single-phase molybdenum pentachloride can be produced efficiently with less energy and costs, and the method used no poisonous raw materials, which is environmental friendly.
