Abstract: This article describes a polymer-assisted deposition process for the preparation of thermochromic VO2 films by using a VOCl2 solution with poly (vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP). The analysis results reveal that VO2 films with small particle size exhibit high visible transmittance and excellent solar transmittance regulating ability, which are comparable with the five-layered TiO2/VO2/TiO2/VO2/TiO2 films. Finally, the metal- insulator transition temperature of VO2 film was reduced to 33 °C by W-doping. This process manifests a promise for the application of VO2 films as energy-saving windows.
