Abstract: Blue light emitting Y2SiO5:Ce phosphors were synthesized by sol-gel method combined with a furnace firing from the sol-gel solution made with Y(NO3)3?6H2O, Ce(NO3)3?6H2O, tetraethoxysilan and ethanol. The microstructures of the phosphors were investigated by XRD and SEM. The photoluminescent properties of the Y2SiO5:Ce phosphors were characterized by excitation and emission spectra. The size of the Y2SiO5:Ce phosphor powders is in a range of 2-5?m. The results indicate that the XRD patterns of the Y2SiO5:Ce phosphors exhibit a X2-Y2SiO5 structure. Blue photoluminescence whose emission peak is located at 421 nm were observed from the synthesized phosphor particles under UV excitation. The photoluminescent mechanisms of the Y2SiO5:Ce phosphors were discussed.
