Abstract: Yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) polycrystalline powders have been prepared by a simple co-precipitation method with ammonia hydrogen carbonate as precipitant agent. Thermal analysis, FTIR, XRD and SEM have been used to characterize the phase transition and morphology of the synthesized powders. The results indicated that pure phase YAG powders were synthesized at 1000 ℃ for 2 h, and the obtained powders showed good dispersion with the particle sizes less than 100 nm. With the prepared YAG powders dry pressed, transparent YAG ceramics can be obtained by sintering at 1750 ℃ for 5 h under vacuum.
