Abstract: To implement modular multiplication in block ciphers, the working principle of modular multiplication hardware logic in which modulus can be 216, 216+1, 232, 232-1 and 264 is analyzed firstly. By using 16-bit multiplier, the design and implementation of a reconfigurable modular multiplication module are proposed, and this module can achieve all of the modular multiplication which has modulus mentioned above. Besides, the working process of how to make use of the reconfigurable module to implement different modular multiplication operations is discussed. Finally, the synthesis of the reconfigurable module is given. The results indicate that this design has high performance and low cost in system resource and function, and provides fundamental module for reconfigurable design of block cipher.
