Abstract: This paper analyzes the carriers’ movement in poled waveguides and simulates the carriers’ distribution in the waveguide layer using carrier theory. The interfaces between cladding/guide layers in the waveguides hinders the carrier’s movement and leads to an accumulation of ions at the interfaces, which is confirmed by experiments. It was the ion accumulation at the interfaces that induces an internal field and causes the secondary nonlinearity in the poled waveguides.
