ABSTRACT: This research was conducted to assess the relative impact of video game
play on cognitive and motor skills. Prior research has shown that video game play
facilitates cognitive and motor skills, while other research has focused on the
negative outcomes of the activity, such as addiction, aggression, obesity,
repetitive strain injuries, and the gradual loss of interest in other
activities. In a pre-post video game manipulation compared against participants
in a comparable control condition, this study’s findings support prior research
on the positive impacts of video game play on
memory, but not motoric response time enhancement. Future iterations of this
research and its limitations are discussed.
